A native English speaker passionate about helping you sound American
My Clients
- Many of my clients are business professionals who regularly work with, report to, or give presentations to Americans or Canadians.
- Accent needs come in many kinds! I have also worked with an actor, a philosopher, a YouTuber, and more!
Common Client Goals
- Do you want people to stop asking you to repeat yourself? We'll focus on your weakest sounds and words to quickly add clarity and speed to your speech.
- Do American spellings and sounds drive you crazy? No problem. I work with students who want to feel more confident reading English with the correct sounds.
- Are you an advanced speaker looking for more? I'm here to help. Some students are highly advanced but still want to push for that "perfect" native sound. Come prepared to work on advanced techniques like linking, assimilation, and reduction to make your speech sound exactly like a native speaker.
How Did You Become an Accent Coach?
I'll never forget the day I learned that the French sound "u" in "tu" was completely different from the American sound "oo" in "too." Until that day, I had always thought they were the same! I had no idea that my French Phonetics class at the University of Arkansas would open up a whole new appreciation for how difficult it is to learn a new accent. Vocabulary is one thing, but pronunciation is a completely different skill.
After graduating with my bachelor's degree, I began teaching a traditional ESL class in Egypt. Of course, while I was there I had to try to get my Arabic accent perfect. Let me tell you — that was a challenge, but I loved it! I don't claim perfection, but I learned so much about mastering difficult sounds and combinations in another language.
One day, my advanced students approached me asking for a class dedicated entirely to American English pronunciation. Okay, I thought, let's give this a try. With permission from my boss and a whole lot of curiosity, I turned my attention away from my Arabic accent and toward my own American one, and built a custom pronunciation course from scratch. If I needed help learning the Arabic accent, maybe I could help others learn mine!
The course was a lot of fun to teach, and my students benefited immensely from the content. From that point on, I kept diving deeper — studying all the intricacies of my own accent and learning how to teach it well. Fast forward, and I'm back in the United States teaching online, with students all over the world!
After two years of teaching students one-on-one, I've developed a sharp ear for pronunciation mistakes and a large repertoire of exercises to help students improve. One of my favorite things about this job is that no two students are exactly the same. Each person brings a unique set of challenges, strengths, and goals — and watching a student achieve their accent goals is incredible.
